Anyway, it's actually assembled using Photoshop's inbuilt photo stitching thingy, which usually does a terrible job but this time seemed to come up with something that looks reasonable if you don't spot the slight colour change in the sky halfway across...-- U.S. Patent 5443036 concerns a device for encouraging a cat to exercise by chasing a light spot. On the other hand, the dictionary doesn't seem to make any distinction. Interestingly Wikipedia seems to suggest that stitching was the original method used:
