are fun and all...and I have a machine now that will run them reasonably well...but I keep seeing this as a "selling point" for gutsy. Like, hey, we're just like Vista now.

Why would anyone want to be like Vista.

Dunno about that. I've turned 'em off now, when I actually tried to get something done they were slowing my crappy five year old machine down too much.

I mention 'em coz they're the main thing I noticed that's different to the Debian SiD install I was using until this week, which for one reason or another Compitz refused to work with.

Oh, and it detected and downloaded drivers for my nVidia card better than Debian did, but I still had to faff around in xorg.conf to get the resolutions I wanted.

many, many locations where I've read stuff about the visual effects and not seen anything about the rest of the system. It's just funny.
I used envy for the nvidia drivers and didn't have to tweak anything, but I have a problem now with a mismatch between the kernel driver and the control panel. Still works, it's just noisy about it.
